Lowville's Largest Street Sale, Burlington, Ontario

Walking bridge over Bronte Creek in Lowville

Traveling north up Guelph Line in
Burlington , you eventually come
to the beautiful historic village
of 'Lowville '.
It is aptly named as it sits in an emerald-green, lush valley where  sparkling Bronte Creek  flows prettily through.

I was in Lowville last week and it was the most pleasant short excursion experience I've had in awhile.

One-room historic stone school house in Lowville

The road that leads to the stream and past the old stone schoolhouse is lined with tall lilacs which are presently in bloom. The beautiful scent carried throughout the village and brought to mind what all of our pioneer villages must have been like 150 years ago.

Lowville is having it's 'Largest Street Sale ' this Thursday, Friday and Saturday (May 28, 29 and 30th) from 8am-3pm.

This treasure-hunter's dream sale is being held at the Lowville United Church , 5800 Guelph Line, North Burlington.
All residents in the region are invited to participate by hosting their own yard sales and for those who live in other areas. the church will be renting space in their parking lot.
An outdoor barbecue will be held on all three days with regular barbecue fare being offered for sale.

I hope you'll attend. You just might find an antique treasure or something you've been wanting for a long time.

You can reserve a spot or find out more information by calling 905-681-0864 or by  contacting  Owen Calhoun / Marilyn Fox

Jo-Anne, I was there about 4 years ago.  I was doing what I do all the time - get in the car, and just go ... and there it was ... beautiful. :)

If the weather is nice, I may just get in the car and go check out the street sale.  I love "finding treasures", especially antiques (maybe a little too much).

Thanks for the information.

JO; This is going to be a lot of fun...wish I were there to find and buy some bargains! Beautiful pictures!  How old is the sweet Church?

Hi Sylvie,

It is a sparkling little jewel that one comes upon unexpectedly when traveling north out of Burlington....so peaceful.

The weather is supposed to clear up tomorrow and also be nice on Saturday so I hope you have a chance to search for some treasures.
We're heading down to the boat tomorrow morning (in Bronte Outer Harbour Marina) and Saturday I have an open house in Port Credit, or I'd arrange to meet you in Lowville!! They have a lovely Bistro there.

Hi Kat,

It does look like lots of fun....if I didn't have an open house on Saturday, I'd definitely be going.

The picture is of the one room stone schoolhouse. It was built in 1888.

Jo-Anne - Some of those pics remind me of where I grew up, very peaceful.  I kind of miss these parts of Mother Nature now that I live in a city.

Jo, what a beautiful, peaceful setting.  I wish I could just sit there and enjoy the scenery for an hour!

hi Jason,

It sounds like you grew up in a very heavenly place....it's amazing how much we lose when we move into the city and we never really realize what we're missing until we're back in peaceful spots like this surrounded by the beauty of nature. I really miss country life too....and the big garden I used to have.

Carole,

Of course you can crash the picnic!! The more the merrier.....as long as Brian doesn't mind all of the yapping you and I do when we get together...        (((-;

Jo - I find it amazing how many hidden beauties such as those in your pictures that we know about in our respective areas. So often these treasures are taken for granted by many who would travel the world ignoring the treasures in their own back yard. Barrie and I spend a great deal of time on our vacations traveling the back roads of Ontario checking out some of these wonderful sights.

Thank you. (-;

Good luck with you neighbourhood yard sale.....It sounds like fun....and a good way to get to know all of the neighbours.

I hope you and Jeff enjoy your summer too....how are your girls?

Kathy,  How right you are! Ontario is just teaming with these out of the way charming little spots....I'm having a good time discovering all of the ones in the golden horseshoe region; there's so much history here.

It sounds like you and Barrie have explored a lot of Ontario and have many wonderful memories of your travels...I'm looking forward to reading more of your blogs about your experiences.

Beautiful photos!   I do love those drives where you find the unexxpected, or charming little village.  I drove up in that area several years ago.  I really loved it, and since I was doing family research in Ontario, I kept getting chills to think that my great, greats had seen some of those old buildings and farms. thanks for the post.

Good Morning Alexsandra,

There's so much history that is still evident in this part of Ontario and with all of the various cultures that were melding their lives together through time, the history is very fascinating, as is the architecture.

thank you for your nice comment,

Jo-Anne,

Now that's a sight for sore eyes--the rushing creek and the bridge.  We miss that here in the desert southwest!
