Operation Red Nose in Burlington, Ontario.
It's that time of year again when merry-making sometimes results in tragic accidents when merry-makers don't stop to consider whether or not they should be getting behind the wheel and driving home.
Alcohol-related accidents result in thousands of deaths and injuries
yearly. This CAN be prevented with the help of individual responsibility, inidividual vigilance and community volunteer programs, such as Operation Red Nose.
Operation Red Nose begins it's first season in Burlington this December, with the help of St. John's Ambulance and hundreds of volunteers.
The program will run in December each Friday and Saturday before Christmas from 9pm-3am.
If you are under the influence, or know someone who is, call Operation Red Nose for a free drive home.
A three person team will be dispatched to pick you up, as well as any of your passengers and your car. A driver will drive you and your passengers home while the remaining team members follow in an escort vehicle.
Call 905-634-6665 or 905-484-3467 if you need someone to drive your car home and keep our highways and roads safe this holiday season.
Operation Red Nose in Burlington, Ontario is looking for donations, corporate sponsors and volunteers to assist with the operations of this excellent community initiative. Don your Santa hat and come out to help!

Jo, I hope they publicize this program so that as many people as possible will be aware and take advantage. It's so easy to think you are ok to drive but with the stricter laws many people may live to rue their decision.
Jo - I like the idea of a team with the owners car being driven home for them and their passengers being driven home as well.
hi Gary,
It's an excellent program and spreading to more communities every year.
Jo
Hi Janice,
If as many people as possible publisize it, the hope is the entire community will be aware of it and the roads will be kept safe this holiday season.
You're right....people often think they're ok to drive, however when you're under the influence, reasoning power disappears.
Jo
Barrie,
It's definitely a very well run and thought out program....
Jo
Jo, It's a wonderful service and will hopefully save lives. We are supposed to have something like that here during some holidays with the cabs offering free rides. I really do hope it helps, drunk driving is getting worse here and in many other places.
Jo,
An absolutely stunning program in the community and a preventive measure for the future. Not to say the amazing deterrent it may have as well.
Jo - that is indeed a wonderful program - we should have that in all communities!!!
Jo,
This is very good information, and I want to compliment you on your new picture.
Brian
Great idea for a smart program. Keeping impaired drivers off the roads is something we're always thinking about in our wine region.
Our local areas have sting operations similarly in place Jo - and also they reward (dollar amounts paid) anyone who calls in suspected drunk drivers who are in fact cited.
Great Blog post for your local area.
Sincerely,
Grace
Carole,
This program has run in many other cities for years now and is slowly making it's way everywhere. I'm glad to hear that you have something similar there.
Jo
Tom,
True, I never thought of it as being a deterrent, however I can see that it would be. Do you have anything similar in Wisconsin?
Jo
Barbara Jo
I agree!
Jo
hi Brian,
Thank you.
Jo
hi Dave,
Do the wineries sponsor any programs like this?
Jo
Hi Grace,
Anything that will keep drunk drivers off the roads is a good thing.....
Jo
Hi Jo,
This sounds like a great program! I support organizations like MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers).
