Robertson Creek Fish Hatchery Near Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, British Columbia

Robertson Creek Fish Hatchery near Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, British Columbia is a state of the art fish hatchery producing millions of Coho Salmon, Chinook Salmon and Steelhead Trout yearly.

It was amongst my favourite places to visit in September when we were in British Columbia. Of course, being a zoologist, I love all aspects of the animal kingdom and am especially fascinated with fish and their life cycles.

Here are some photos taken at the Robertson Creek Fish Hatchery. If you go, be alert and watch for bears who frequent the hatchery site looking for a free meal.

Jo-Anne:  I often feel like the fish in your first picture when I am trying to go back and visit my birthplace in Cleveland, Ohio.  Some trips are not easy to make... but I keep trying.  Thanks for a really cool, and very interesting post.  Take care...

Jo,

I was going to comment on your BC trip, however, I did catch the comment "being a zoologist". WOW, that's impressive!

I'm going to follow your 2010 post about animals more closely.

Jo-Anne I am not a Zoologist but I would have enjoyed this tour too.  Your photos are lovely.

Karen Anne,

Your comment reminded me of that song 'Time Passages'......in fact, I have it going through my head right now.
Some trips into the past are very difficult to take....although I think in time, it gets easier.

Jo - that little river otter knows a good thing when he sees it. They are very interesting to watch as they dive and fish catching them in their teeth and running back along the shore to their nests to feed the young

Jo, I loved seeing this!  The setting is spectacular as well as the fish photos.  We have a very small hatchery not too far from where I live and I've never gone.....I will make it a point to visit!

Kathy,

I've never watched one, however it does sound like a fascinating show.  The little guy we saw was very young and inquisitive- he kept peaking out at us from behind a metal panel just like a child playing peek-a-boo.
