Tuesday we attended the Toronto Boat Show at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto. The show was very well organized and had something for everyone.
For cottagers, one whole section was devoted to cottage living.
We had a long talk with a fellow who work
s for a log home company and learned a great deal about the modern way of building a log home while we stood inside of one of their model shells.
Once more I began to dream of a beautiful, open-concept, log house overlooking one of Ontario's clean, northern lakes.
For those who come to the show hungry, there are an abundance of food venues to suit every taste.
One place we always have to stop by is the Carmichael's sausage booth.
While standing waiting for Louis to make his yearly 'wild turkey sausage' purchases, I gazed down and saw a small sign that read 'kangaroo sausage'.
Yes, you can even buy kangaroo sausage at the Toronto Boat Show.
We enjoyed touring the yachts and sailboats, however I was very disappointed that my beloved 'Tartan' Sailboat wasn't on display this year.
The dealer said they had sold them all and didn't have any to bring to the show. Now this was THE number one thing I was looking forward to seeing at the Toronto Boat Show, so needless to say I was very disappointed. Oh well, maybe next year.
After stopping for a delicious late lunch of perch and fries, we wandered over to the giant indoor lake (an arena sized pool) to see what was happening. Not too much, just a few people trying out kayaks and paddle boats.
On Saturday and Sunday the amazing waterskiing dog will be putting on a show.
Armed with bags full of boat cleaning products, sausages, brochures, business cards and promotional DVDs, we decided it was time to head home.
It was a very enjoyable afternoon spent escaping winter for awhile at the Toronto International Boat Show and I'm looking forward to attending again next year.

Hi Jo-Anne...We all know what's right around the corner, spring. Right around the corner from that is summer, more boating weather. Now is the time to get ready for the fun ahead.
Kate
Hi Kate,
Spring is close by for you....although you've had lots of cold weather this year.
Our spring usually starts sometime in mid April, although sometimes we're lucky and March is warm.
Jo
Jo,
Never heard of an indoor lake before! You Canadians are so creative:-)
Sounds like a fun show!
All the best, Michelle
Jo thats a nice twist given the weather lately. How long can one boat in Ontario about three months or a little longer?
I would have loved to have gone to the show! My hubby is working the show on the OPP booth. I couldn't go down as someone has to look after our baby (German Shep). Glad you had a blast!
Sounds so refreshing... just the thing to pick up winter-weary tired of snow folks! The pictures are great - very colorful... and the water looks so inviting!
WOW!
What a great event!
Best in 2010
your friend in Charlottesville Virginia!
Jo - Spring is getting closer each day ... Ok I know you went to see the "big" boats and trust you have some lovely shots of things we can only dream about to share
Jo
Makes me want to jump on a plane and come see the boat show in Toronto. I love boats; my son and I would sit in ours for days.
Michelle,
Thanks for the evening laughs about Canadians being so creative... I guess we are! As they say, necessity is the mother of invention.
Jo
You're right, Gary...it's a winning combination!
Jo
John,
You HAVE to come up to Ontario some day....we actually have beautiful weather from the beginning of April until mid November and generally put the boat in in early May and take it out in early November. We end up boating for about 6 months.
It's not as cold here as you think it is....
Jo
Hi Sasha,
I'd love to see a picture of your 'baby'...maybe you can write a blog about him/her?
Perhaps we saw your husband there and didn't even know it....too bad, I would have gone and introduced myself to him and tell him that I know you from AR!
Jo
Diane,
Do you have boat shows in Illinois? One of my favourite cities in the world is Peoria, btw.
Jo
Hi Charles,
I think you would have really enjoyed it.
Jo
Kathy,
I only took my camera to get a few pictures of the Tartan Sailboats...sadly there weren't any on display so no, I don't have any other pics to share.
As for spring, I noticed the evening light was more 'spring-like' tonight....
Jo
Tom,
I bet that you and Spencer would really enjoy the boat show. Perhaps one day you'll make it up here and will have a chance to go to it!
Jo
Jo, It sounds like you had a wonderful time and I'm sorry your favorite one was not there...it must be everyone's favorite boat. I'm still stuck on the Kangaroo Sausage (?) .. and a little afraid to ask what's in it. That's a new one I haven't heard of.
Jo, Great story and photos about your boat show. We have ours in Houston going now too.
Jo,
Boating can be a very relaxing activity. I'm going to try to attend the boat show this weekend. I have always enjoyed it in the past.
Brian
Carole,
You would love the Tartan...the interior is all cherry wood and it's just like being inside a cosy, warm cottage on the water.
Carmichaels sells a wide variety of exotic sausage...I recall they also had ostrich, buffalo and numerous others that I can't remember now. Up til I attended the boat show, I didn't even know that people ate kangaroo!
Jo
Susan,
I imagine Houston must have a pretty amazing boat show...complete with Tartan Sailboats!
Jo
Brian,
My Dad and Stepmom are going on Saturday....it's a good time to go as there will be many more things going on...for instance, the amazing waterskiing dog will be there showing her skill on the indoor lake. Take a picture of her for me, will you? Thanks!
Jo
