Plan Now for 'Family Day' Fun in Oakville, Burlington and Beyond!

Plan Now for Family Day Fun in Oakville, Burlington and Beyond!

Family Day 2010
will fall on Monday, February 15th in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
On this very significant holiday, most businesses, public offices and schools will be closed in recognition of the importance 'family' has in our society and in our lives.

This is a day to make a special point of doing things together as a whole family.

This will be the third Family Day that Ontario celebrates.

Creating 'Family Day' traditions that your children will carry on with their own families when they're grown up, can strengthen the bond and leave wonderful memories that will last forever.

Wondering what to do on Family Day? Here are 'just a few' suggestions.....

  • visit a local park and go for a hike on a nature trail

  • visit a local outdoor rink or arena and go for a 'family skate'.

  • create a special meal together

  • take turns reading from a special book that carries significant meaning for your family

  • call all of your family members and tell them how much you appreciate that they are in your life and are part of YOUR family

  • send cards to members of your family

  • have a special 'milestone' family photo taken and carry on the tradition each Family Day

  • visit a museum or historical site and make sure to take plenty of photos

  • have a board game marathon or tournament

  • invite all of your family members over for a feast

  • stay in your pyjamas all day and watch your favourite movies on TV

  • have a family art day with each family member painting or drawing a work of art of their own, then make it into a collage

  • spend the day skiiing or snowboarding as a family

  • attend a yoga or dance class together

  • have a video game tournament
  • go out as a family to a favourite restaurant for brunch or dinner
  • bake special cookies together and then deliver them to those who don't have a family

There are so many exciting and enjoyable events taking place.
Why not make 'family day' last year round and make each day in the life of your family a special one where the familial bond is strengthened?
It's up to each of us to make it so.

As we take part in this year's Family Day activities with our families, let's pause and consider those families who are going through difficult times and those children and adults who don't have a family.

Whether you live in Oakville, Burlington or beyond, I hope you have a
wonderful Family Day and create many long lasting memories for you and your family!

I wonder how many people will take advantage of Family Day in the way it was intended?

Jo - I like your comment about creating family traditions and making memories. I noticed in our local papers that there are a lot of free or almost free things to do on Family Day for those who are feeling the pinch.

Kathy,

Municipalities seem to be rising to the forefront and making family day a day when finances shouldn't limit spending time together doing fun things....I'm glad to see this and I think the number of free activities will only increase in the years to come.

Jo,

This is a very good list of things to do. I'm glad to see that municipalities are stepping up.
