I May Not Have Any Grandchildren Yet, But.......

Nanuk and Pika

I have a lovely Grand-cat named Nanuk and beautiful Grand-dog named Pika. They are David's (my oldest son) and Angie's family and are the best of friends.
They live in Kelowna, BC so I don't get to see them much.  When we were there this past September, Nanuk and Pika were always getting into some kind of mischief together, especially when they were home alone.

Left to their own devices, Nanuk, with the dexterity her paws offer, would open doors and cupboards and get out paper towels or toilet paper for Pika to unravel and shred all through the house.
This was a habit of theirs. Every time we would come home, it would be to a floating sea of white tissue everywhere.   ((-;
Other than that, they are very well behaved.

Jo, pets are so wonderful and help us relieve stress. Our Golden Retriever "GiGi" is amazing in how she seems to know we are not well. When we are sick she lays almost on top of us and you can feel the healing energy. She is such a treasure to us. Beautiful photo and those pet help your children immensly!

They look like good friends.  I have a new kitten that has learned how to shut the older cat into the utility room.  She is quite methodical in her plan. When I go to let the older cat out he just gives me the look as if to say "why?"

Jo, Pika is a great looking dog.  I'm not so much of a cat person, but I do love dogs.

They are absolutely gorgeous and I love hearing stories about how animals "work" together. So funny! Thanks for sharing, Jo.

Jo - whenever I see a dog and a cat working or playing together I think of the diversities in the human race ..... we could all learn a lesson from this

Hi Jo, Such a sweet and innocent photo. Make that tissue party with Charmin and you might have a winning ad for them. I do recall that tissue companies want to see their tissue be used everywhere and these two would eagerly accommodate ( taken literally of course).

Jo,

I have a roll of "Kleenex" in my office. My cats are attracted to it like a magnet and they shred it. It's a cat thing I guess.

Those two little cuties can't possibly be as mischievous as you make them out to be. Usually grandmothers are much better than that. LOL

Jo,

There are times when I would like my cats and dogs to be living with someone else.

And, you're right, fur is everywhere!

Awwww...love the photo and that sounds like someting my simba does....we had to move the catfood into a closet b/c he knows how to open drawers, cabinets.  My mother in law (and mom too) are in the same situation as you.....no grandkids from us, just 3 cats :=-)

Jeanean,

It's amazing how intuitive pets are....your retriever sounds very loving and certainly is an integral part of your family. I'm so glad you and David have her in your lives.

Cindy,

It sounds like your new kitten intends on becoming the Queen of the household. ((-;

Nick,

Pika is a great dog.....she's very similar to a Siberian Husky I had as a teenager.

I prefer dogs to cats too.....although some cats are real treasures.

Pam,

It's amazing, isn't it? I guess they learn through trial and error and once they see that their combined efforts are paying off, they continue with the behaviours. Very smart!

Kathy,

So true. Reminds me of those email pictures that go around where a crow becomes best friends with a cat and so on...

hi Lynda,

She's an Alaskan Malamute ....she's just a pup in this photo; she's quite a bit bigger now.

hi Sasha,

I think Pika likes the curling up part better than Nanuk does....cats are generally not pack animals like dogs.

Vicki,

Your new puppy must be adorable. What did you name her/him?

Jo

lol, William....perhaps Dave and Angie could hide a camera and video-tape their antics using Charmin or Royale tissues....

Terry,

Perhaps they're 'nesting'....cats seem to enjoy making a pile of fluffy stuff to lay in.

Russel,

No, of course they never get up to mischief...they're perfect angels.  ((-;

I didn't mention the fur, however you're right...have pets, have fur! How many cats and dogs do you have?

I'm sure the Grandmothers love their little 'grandcats'...and spoil them too.

Pika's full name is Pikata whichis Inuit for 'companion'.  How are your dogs doing?

Jo, I just read your last comment about the meaning of Pikata...pretty cool, I like learning things like that.

Hi Jo,

They are so cute, the dog is beautiful!! Their names are really neat names too... Grandma!! I tried to leave you a comment a couple of weeks ago and kept getting an error message. Anyway I am in Seoul Korea right now heading to Beijing China in just over a week! For a week then back to Seoul for a few more days before I head home at the end of the month. My daughter is at work right now so I thought I would pop on and say HI and do some reading. I have a post of Carole's that I bookmarked so I could reread it and pick up some items while in China. Hope all is well with you. Any summer plans?

I may be out your way in the not too distant future. My daughter is moving to Toronto probably in the fall and my daughter that I am visiting right now is done the end of Oct and then going to travel until just before Christmas when she will come home and then she plans to move to Toronto too! So when I am there we will have to meet somewhere for a coffee or tea! Take care.

What peaceful and pleasant looking examples of friendship. I hear the name "Nanuk" and I think of that old Frank Zappa song about "Dont eat the yellow snow"
