One of the most picturesque and relaxing
places to visit in Oakville is Bronte Outer Harbour Marina.
Resting serenely on the shores of Lake Ontario, Bronte Outer Harbour Marina has a myriad of services to offer local boaters and visitors as well as beautiful areas to walk or spend some time contemplating the sounds and sights of nature.

Bronte is now re-awakening from a long winter's nap and anxious boaters are counting down the days to when their boats will leave dry land and once again float gently in their water homes.
Canada Geese have returned and the gulls are once more gliding gracefully on the upland drafts and breezes coming off the lake.

The boat slips are thawing and a myriad of migrating waterfowl stop over daily to rest in the sheltered waters of the marina.

Local residents once
again can be seen walking along the peer and fishermen can again be seen casting their lines in hopes of landing a prize catch.

A lonely harbour lays in wait.
Bronte Outer Harbour re-awakening after a long winter.
Patient slips await their boats.

Overlooking Bronte Outer Harbour ~ A beautiful place to call home.

Hello...what a beautiful bunch of photos! Very serene and peaceful indeed! I sure hope they ban the seal hunt soon...is that near you?
Thanks Kristin!
No, I'm no where near the east or west coasts (where the seals reside) of Canada. I'm inland on the shores of Lake Ontario, one of the Great Lakes.
In fact, I'm not all that far from you.
I've been hoping for years that they would ban the seal hunt also.

Jo: What a lovely place! It reminds me some of our east coast harbors. These areas, to me, are always good locations to be written about in novels... Thank you for sharing. The pictures are great!
Jo, The photos are just beautiful! It does look similar to places here as well....and I noticed the other day that birds are returning. Our boats are still covered but just waiting; just like yours :) I loved seeing this, it is surprisingly like some of the way Long Island looks right now.
Wonderful pictures of your harbour and all the 'awakening' after a long winter... Looks like the fowl are having a time!
Jo, so nice to see one of my favorites posting again and that the frozen Tundra is thawing. You take exquisite photos BTW.
hi Kat,
I agree...it does look very east-coastish and makes a perfect setting for one of those seaside (or in this case, lakeside) novels. Bronte is a lovely village that was incorporated into the City of Oakville in 1954, however it still maintains much of it's original charm.
thanks for stopping by!
Jo
Carole,
I look forward to one day visiting Long Island, and especially visiting the coastal areas. I imagine there are many beautiful marinas there.
thanks so much for your kind words!
Jo
Hi Sally!
Yes, we look forward to spring greatly here....I imagine Hawaii is green and warm as ever?
The waterfowl do seem to have the life, don't they?
Jo
Hello Jo,
And it will soon be boating time! Yeah! We had a glorious week-end here with temps in the mid 70s--wish I thought it was here to stay but I know we'll have more cold days before that happens.
Hi Jo, The pictures remind me of several marina's in NW Indiana- until I saw the one with several buildings high rise apartments/condos? The population is probably much greater there I'd guess? than near our marina's.
Lovely photos and great localism info Jo - we visit the local marina's along Lake Michiagn in summer during Venetian night and other fests...looks like it's still cold there from your photos!
Sincerely,
Grace
Looks like the snow and ice are on their way out and spring is on the way. Spring is such a hopeful time and the rebirth and return are always a pleasure to observe.
Jo
That marina sure looks inviting today from Wisconsin
Tom
Thanks Gary!
You're always so kind with your comments. How are things in Texas?

Jo
Hi Cynthia,
wow, I'm so envious. I would love to have a warm sunny day....guess it will be here soon enough.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your beach pictures this summer.
Jo
Hi Grace,
Yes, Oakville is a city and actually part of the Greater Toronto Area. There are thousands of high-rise and rowhouse type condos here. The ones facing the water start at prices that exceed one million.
Venetian night sounds interesting! What does that entail?
Perhaps you and Jeff can make it here for a visit sometime. We'd love to have you as guests...and we could go sailing.

Jo
hi Norma,
We've had a lot of rain here lately and our snow is all gone. It's supposed to go down to freezing tonight though....
Spring is one of my favourite times of the year.
thanks for stopping by!
Jo
hi Tom,
The marina is still quite cold with the brisk breeze coming off of Lake Ontario....likely similar to Lake Michigan and Washington Island.
thanks for visiting this post,
Jo
Jo-Anne this looks like such a great community and your photos really highlighted this. Yes we are all waiting for spring.
Hi Jennifer!
Thanks so kindly for stopping by with such a lovely comment....

What a peceful looking marina
Glenn Shong
Hi Jo Anne,
What beautiful photos!
Now a question from someone who lives in a warmer climate, where are all the boats? Stored/warehoused inside somehwere because of the ice, correct?
Glenn,
Yes, it's very peaceful, indeed. thanks for stopping by,
Jo
Hi Lynda!
In the second picture you can see the boats on dry land all covered over with their winter tarps/plastic, etc. Some people actually leave their boats in the water all winter long and live on them.
thanks so much for your kind comment...it's great to see you!
Jo
I'm so glad spring is coming. I love walking in this area and through Old Oakville. Add the shops on Lakeshore Rd. and you have a perfect day. Bring on the warm weather!!!
hi Janice,
We often walk in the Bronte Outer Harbour area as well....and I'm often in Old Oakville as my office is on Trafalgar in Oakville (and we plan to move to downtown Oakville).
I think spring is making it's appearance bit by bit...
thanks for stopping by!
Jo
Jo, things are warming up here in Texas real estate wise and temperature wise as spring has just started with some cool 50 to 70 degree temps. I love how in your photos it shows the ice breaking up.
Hi Gary,
I'm glad to hear that spring has found you. I noticed some small purple crocuses in bloom not too far from where I live last week....and the temperatures are at least above 0 now. ((-:
